Three security men charged over Kumasi stray bullet tragedy



Two soldiers and a policeman face provisional charges of conspiracy to murder and murder over an incident in which stray bullet hit and killed a driver on Monday.

Privates Edem Lartey and Godfred Addo of the Fourth Battalion of Infantry in Kumasi are being investigated for conspiracy to murder and murder.

Police Lance Corporal Eric Amoako of Zongo Police Station is cited for muder. 

The three were arrested after the policeman’s gun went off when the soldiers attempted to disarm him during a scuffle between them and the now deceased driver.
Police say the attention of the policeman on guard duty was drawn to brawl between the soldiers and driver.

The military allegedly attempted to disarm the police officer, and in the process the weapon went off and hit 31 year old Charles Wiavo, an employee of Fire Consultancy Agency.  

Ashanti Regional Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Corporal Godwin, Ahianyo says the police are on-going with their investigations.
